CENTENARY AMERICAN CUP USA 2016
It will be the first purely continental tournament since the Pan American Cup, played in 1952, 1956 and 1960. In turn, it will be the fourth time the Conmebol perform one of their tournaments in the United States, which previously held the Recopa Sudamericana in 1990 , 2003 and 2004.
The Cup will be held as part of an agreement between the Conmebol and Concacaf, as a special edition of the America's Cup (45th edition since its inception in 1916), among the usual four-year cycle, and will have a field expanded to 16 teams, above the usual 12, with 10 teams from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF 6. On December 17, 2015, the heads of groups were confirmed, the stadiums that will play, and the dates and times of the matches.
The winner will not receive a place in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, since this is a special edition different in several respects from the traditional America's Cup.
Election of the host country
It was planned that this sporting event to be held in the United States; but in August 2015 and following the case of corruption FIFA headquarters alternatives as they were considered, if that country declined the idea. But since CONMEBOL president, Juan Angel Napout said the September 1, 2015 which would be played with the original format and that the United States would host.
Corruption scandal FIFA
The event was officially announced jointly by CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, the May 1, 2014, but implementation was questioned as a result of the corruption scandal in FIFA 2015.
Finally, in August 2015, Juan Angel Napout, president of CONMEBOL, in that then- ratified the event, although not host it, because it doubted its realization in the United States, as initially thought.
This change was due to the recent cases of corruption in FIFA, involving executives of the organizing associations, and eventually create doubts about this option, as the prosecution of New York is carrying out investigations and many of managers could not enter US territory. Finally, the president of the Conmebol announced in September 2015, to be held in the United States, and would remain, at once, the headquarters of the following two editions of the Copa America: Brazil in 2019 and Ecuador in 2023 .
In 2014, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL announced the tournament thinking that based outside the United States in 2015 after the case of corruption in FIFA 2015, the tournament was questioned and the United States withdrew from host and participate in the tournament, but in August 2015, CONMEBOL confirmed the completion of the tournament, not headquarters, but in September, the headquarters was confirmed and would be in the United States.
In a master list of 24 venues to host the event, the list under 7 as probable venues, however officially November 19, 2015, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL confirmed that would be 10 venues for the event being all within your area metropolitan. The venues are: Foxborough, Chicago, Houston, Pasadena, New York / New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Bay Area and Seattle.
